Ok my all time favorite family tradition that is the one thing I am like crazy we have to always do (at least while in Montana) is cutting down a Christmas tree, we could skip the rest of the holiday season and I would be just fine. But this one is must.
This year I thought we would take it up a notch with queso from Cafe Rio! It really made the hour plus drive to the trees a lot better!
We went the same place we went last year. There has been about half the snowfall as this time last year, but for some reason the parking lot was totally covered in deep snow. John thought this would be no problem for our snow 4 wheel drive setting, but I guess that has it's limits, a huge hole you can't see because of the snow. So we got stuck, and John had to push.
Caleb was just pretty excited to be out of the house and have the tree tag!
Finally the Good Samaritan came and helped us. I am ashamed to say a Jeep Liberty pulled us out, that is like the wussiest SUV ever.
Our tire tracks.
Caleb loved sitting on the sled this year!
It was above 14 degrees, I am guessing close to 20, not near 32 at all. I guess right around -10 C
Aww the forest!
Caleb and I stayed up at the front while John scouted the trees.
It was great watching the little one armed man play around.
My favorite part of the day was Caleb doing snow angels. He kind of acts like his left arm is gone, so he didn't move it at all. Instead he moved his head and then finally got the right arm going.
My beautiful snow angel!
John hunting for trees.
Ok how cute is he?
John told me he couldn't find any trees, so I went out looking, all I could see is trees (we ended up getting the front one).
This might officially solidify my spot in the bad mom hall of fame. There was this tiny little incline, but I am too weak sauce to pull Caleb up it, so I told him to get it. I swear he insisted on climbing the "hill" on his own and wouldn't let me help. He literally dragged himself up the hill using his one good arm. I couldn't stop laughing and totally regret not taking a video. I swear I would have helped if he would have let me, but this was way more fun, my little Civil War solider!
Oh look John more Christmas trees.
We had gone awhile without seeing or hearing John so I started yelling "John John" which made Caleb do the same.
John and Caleb scouting the area.
It literally was two minutes after I started walking around I found our tree. John has found our tree the other two years, so I guess it was my turn.
We brought Caleb's toy saw and forgot it in the car, he was very sad.
Isn't she pretty?
Caleb wanted this little tree and I literally had to drag him crying out of the forest. Next year we will remember to get two permits so he can have his little tree.
John dragging the tree.
A nice nap later and we were home, we got the tree in the house and ran to the store. We came back and found this.
Caleb using the robe to tie the tree down.
Had to get the star on top, I am amazed how much Caleb remembers about last year.
He found a cute little Santa hat.
Caleb insisted he needed a safety harness for decorating the tree.
Caleb told us he needed a rest and went and got tigger and snuggled up for all of 1 minute.
And of course the tree needed to be hammered-thanks for helping with that!
It was such a fun day! I love cutting the tree down, John was saying he would never do it again, but by the time we got home he was talking about his plan for next year.

Caleb looked so happy. He must be doing a little better with his arm. I'm so glad. It looked like lots of fun.
